A good story is like watching the sky dipped in sunset, little ripples dancing in a pond, the sweet scent of rain against the window, the first sip of tea in the morning. It’ll make you close your eyes, give yourself a tight squeeze, bring a smile to your face and for a moment, in that moment, there is order in this world. There’s something sweet and hopeful about it. That there is room left for beautiful coincidences and occurrences. That your heart has space for memory, one that makes it feel lighter in that moment.

A great story on the other hand, could also be your worst love story. One that breaks your heart, brings tears to your eyes, robs you away from the hope you carried within, makes you want to shut yourself up and draw the curtains in. But it is also the one that makes you stronger, shows you the light through the cracks, pours in some sunlight through the gaps of the curtain and gets you back up on your feet again. One that changes parts of you, leading you closer to yourself, secure and unstoppable.

And I wish I could have a balance of both. I don’t want only great stories. Sometimes, just simple, good stories are enough. It’s like comfort food, you don’t always need elaborate meals with fancy ingredients. But again, it is the great stories that lead me to the good ones. Allows me to see the value of it, embracing it like an old friend I haven’t seen in ages.

Will I write about the bad ones? Are there bad ones? Or are there just the stories that are so bad that they too, eventually lead us to the good?

Here’s to the rain against the window and the light through the cracks, the ones that make you, you.
